ShockWave therapy being performed on a woman for neck pain

EPAT Therapy, also known as “Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy” (ESWT), successfully addresses acute and chronic conditions such as:

●  Knee Pain (Baker Cysts, Patellar Tendonitis)

●  Foot & Heel Pain (Plantar Fasciitis, Spurs)

●  Shoulder Pain (Frozen Shoulder, Tendonitis)

●  Neck & Back Pain (Trigger Points, Myofascitis)

●  Elbow Pain (Tennis and Golfer’s Elbow)

●  Wrist Pain (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome)

●  Hand Pain

It was a year or so pre-pandemic when I first stumbled upon a sponsor table at the State Chiropractic Association seminar. They had several machines on display and were advertising the “Amazing EPAT/ESWT Shockwave Therapy for Your Office”. Curious, I listened to the presentation by the salesperson and was mildly intrigued. It was hard to believe that soundwaves could produce so much healing, so much restoration.

Wanting to try it on myself I asked to have my right elbow treated.

I played tennis the weekend before and my elbow was exhibiting the typical overuse tenderness (lateral epicondylitis aka tennis elbow). The technician set up the machine dabbed some gel on my skin and within a minute the gun-like applicator was hammering into my elbow muscles and tendons. 3000 Strikes or about 4 minutes later it was done and I was told that just a few session like this resolves even the toughest cases of tendonitis or epicondylitis.

Wiping off the leftovers of the gel on my arm, I asked the obvious question: “How Much?” The answer was somewhat expected (medical equipment cost crazy money), but still shocking! Then quickly, the salesman added: “Oh yeah! Insurance does not reimburse for it!” I thanked him for the information and the treatment and stumbled off to the next seminar session.

It wasn’t until later that evening that I realized that my elbow stopped hurting completely…

I spent several years researching, hearing from providers that did buy the machine, looking for other options to get one for the office. Everything I heard and read kept convincing me that Genesis needs a therapy option like this. Every case study reminded me of a patient or patients in our practice that would benefit from Shockwave Therapy.

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) was first introduced into clinical practice back in 1980 as a treatment for non-invasive lithotripsy (kidney stone therapy). However, in the last two decades, it has grown to be widely used as a method to treat various musculoskeletal disorders and even to stimulate bone growth.

The Shockwave machine uses an air compressor to rapidly push a metal “bullet” inside of a narrow tube in the applicator. The bullet hits a membrane at the tip of the applicator, which produces a palpable shock-like soundwave that can penetrate your body’s tissues causing the healing and repair effect. Thus, the shock waves are used for the treatment of various orthopedic conditions including plantar fasciitis, shoulder tendinopathy, elbow tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy and Achilles tendinopathy. Recently, shockwave treatment has been extended to treat other conditions, including femoral head necrosis, osteochondritis and calcific shoulder tendonitis.

Shock waves are high energy sound waves produced under water with a high voltage explosion and evaporation. In orthopedic cases they are used to induce neovascularization at the junction of the tendon-bone and the release of growth factors. Subsequently, these lead to the improvement of the blood supply and to an increase in cell proliferation and ultimately to the tissue regeneration of tendons and bones for tissue repair.

DOESN’T IT SOUND AMAZING!!!??? I was sold…

“Shockwave therapy is really growing because it has the ability to help with the healing process, increase blood flow, opening up the channels that allow the cells to be introduced into whatever you put in that area. It’s a great one-two punch combination. If you can open up the channels with EPAT/Shockwave increasing blood flow to the area kind of starting the inflammatory cascade of healing and then come along with Biologics it is like the perfect storm. We know it works and we know that EPAT/Shockwave therapies have been shown to help stimulate the cells to grow and to heal and help with the healing process, it’s a win, win.”

Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, Regenerative Medicine Specialist

This simple, minimally painful procedure has been consistently clocking in 80-91% satisfaction and success rates.

Podiatrists are raving about it. Conditions like plantar fasciitis and achilles tendonitis can be managed in just a few sessions.

Shoulder, elbow and knee chronic injuries can all be aided and eliminated with the use of this amazing machine. I am looking forward to treating the common trigger points with it as well.

Shockwave therapy works along well with other modalities and hands-on therapies we use in our office. We are all looking forward to cutting down our patients’ recovery time and helping you get back to using your body fully faster. The treatments are recommended on a once a week, as needed schedule. Each session brings about a bodily response that needs time to rebuild and restructure the injured part.

EPAT Therapy is a highly effective treatment method:

High-energy sound waves are introduced into the painful areas of the body. It is one of the most advanced and highly effective noninvasive treatment methods cleared by the FDA!

The treatment works by helping to improve the regenerative potential, and enhancing blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue.

Beneficial effects are often experienced after only 1 or 2 treatments and there is no downtime. The non-surgical therapy for pain not only eliminates pain but it also restores mobility, thus quickly improving the quality of life for patients..

Unfortunately, insurance still does not cover this amazing procedure. What’s new? 🙁 At Genesis, we strive to bring our care to as many people as we can and staying affordable is a must. Despite the growing prices around us, we are offering this service with a significant discount, compared to the national price point. We are using the top of the line equipment available. It is evidence-based, safe, FDA approved, non-invasive and incredibly effective!
I look forward to showing off our new toy for many years to come. Health is a process, a balancing act. Now, there is one more weapon at our disposal at Genesis to help you keep it in check!
